Looking Back at the 2021-22 School Year

As the 2021-22 school year ends, let's look back on some highlights from the last year.

Our students continued to excel at all levels. Reem Hamdan (Senior) was named a Regeneron semifinalist. Kyle Arjun Kavully (Senior) won first place in the Behavioral Sciences category at the Long Island Science and Engineering Fair (LISEF). Throughout this busy school year, Plainedge students participated in numerous educational programs that exposed them to unique opportunities. Plainedge Schools celebrated Law Enforcement, Veterans, and First Responders with Appreciation Days. K-12 Best Buddies Chapter hosted many events including its first Fashion Show! All Elementary Schools participated in PARP (Pick A Reading Partner), The Great Kindness Challenge, Red Ribbon Week, and Kids Heart Challenge raising over $20,000 for the American Heart Association, as well as participating in Bright Futures/Career Awareness where all Middle and Elementary school students interacted in activities that promote thinking about their future. Our awesome Robotics Team competed in tournaments at Hofstra University while our Plainedge High School National Honor Society Chapter inducted over 100 new members into the Society. Plainedge High School and Plainedge Middle School collaborated with Massapequa Perk Coffee House to decorate over 500 coffee sleeves with positive mental health messages. Our first-ever Universal Pre-K Early Learning Center opened at Eastplain Elementary School. Two Plainedge Middle School students finished in 1st and 3rd place out of 360 participants in the Regional Stock Market Game. Six National Junior Honor Society students received the Outstanding Achievement Award earning $500 towards their college education! Two Middle School band students performed at the NYS Band Directors Association Festival. Plainedge TV Productions attended Annie Live on NBC and enjoyed an all-access experience to interview television production professionals. Plainedge School District was awarded a BEST COMMUNITY FOR MUSIC EDUCATION 2022 by the NAAM Foundation, for the third consecutive year.

Regarding Athletics, 100% of our fall sports teams were named Scholar-Athletes and as of February 2022, we recognized 13 student-athletes, who have signed to play at Division I, II, and III colleges. Our Challenger Basketball Program won the Unified Hoops Championships and Plainedge High School Varsity Cheerleading and placed 3rd in Nationals and 1st in the NYS Tournament. Every Fall and Winter Varsity team earned New York State Scholar-Athlete Team honors. Boys Varsity Football were League Champions, Nassau County Champions, and Long Island Champions. Girls Varsity Basketball Coach Sarah Tansey was awarded Newsday, Coach Of The Year, and her team were Nassau County Champions. Coach Matthew Rich was named Assistant Wrestling Coach Of The Year and 100% of our fall sports teams were named Scholar-Athletes!

What a year it was for Plainedge, I couldn’t be prouder of all of our accomplishments.
